Since the beginning of its establishment as a public organisation in November 1989, Lithuanian Welfare Society for People With Intellectual Disability “Viltis” started raising an issue of re-integrating individuals with developmental problems into society.
Since then, the organisation became an initiator and promoter of forward reforms, which are not always easy to be entrenched in the society. As the developer of a network of community based services, the society is constantly seeking dialogue with legislative and executive state institutions, sister organisations in Lithuania and abroad, as well as the society itself.
Artūras Melianas was one of those politicians, who helped to develop the collaboration with municipality and state authorities. He contributed to the service network establishment in Vilnius, which became model not only for Lithuania, but also for East Europe countries and for Commonwealth of Independent States. Artūras Melianas is long member of “Viltis”. He works voluntary in different programs, lectures refresher courses about professional qualifications.
“Viltis” vision is to become a major factor ensuring equal and full-fledged social involvement of people with developmental problems in the life of the society. Represent the interests and protect the rights of those individuals and their families.
