Lions Clubs International is the biggest and the most active social club organization in the world.

There are 44300 LIONS clubs in the 185 countries and about 1,5 million members. The title LIONS is abbreviation in English of the words: Liberty, Intelligence, Our Nations Safety. LIONS means in Lithuanian “lions”, therefore members are often so called.

The most important condition of Lions club establishment is that club must comprise of the people with different professions and specialities. It is important to follow the basic principle and slogan of lionism fairly and honestly – we serve!

LIONS movement is in Lithuania quite young, it began in 1990. There are 25 Lithuanian clubs inaugurated and formally adopted in the international Lions clubs association.

LIONS „Sostinė“ club in Vilnius is the biggest LIONS club in Lithuania. It unites almost 40 members with the various activities – scientists, entrepreneurs, artists, politicians, officers, lawyers, priests and soldiers. This club organizes every year on V.Kernagis initiative original charity concerts. During the concert collected funds, which seek about 12 000 Lt, are committed for the blinds and sighted. This concert is sacred not only for the LIONS members, but also for the charges of the Blind and Sighted Education Centre.

LIONS “Sostinė” club supports “Baltoji lazdelė” events in Vilnius, organizes glasses collection and share-out action for disadvantaged. Also club financed travelling to JAV for blind composer and artist V.Bučionis, supported publishing of the blind literati miscellany “Vaivorykštė”, budgeted for blinds getting white sticks and many other charitable works.

Together with Scandinavian countries LIONS “Sostinė” club implemented international project “Baldžio šilas”. During this project Disabled Rehabilitation Centre was renovated. Together with Iceland LIONS clubs “Sostinė” club implemented charity project for hospitals and disadvantaged many years.

One of the club traditions is to discuss with interesting people and to visit companies managed by club members.

Artūras Melianas is member of the Lions „Sostinė“ club in Vilnius. He participates active in organization of social and charity events.
